‘The Treasury of Ornamental Art’, by Francis Bedford, c1857
[About]
This collection of decorative art encompasses lithographs crafted by Francis Bedford (1824-1913), which were reproduced from his original photographs captured at the Marlborough House museum in 1853. Among the showcased items are a silver chalice modeled after fifteenth-century design by Pugin and an intricately embroidered Indian satin apron. Bedford initiated his career as a lithographer in the 1840s, preceding his venture into photography. By approximately 1850, he secured employment with Day & Son, renowned as 'lithographers to the Queen,' contributing to several significant illustrated art publications of the nineteenth century.
