The Lasting Impact of Florence Knoll (1917-2019)
[27.12.2024] Architecture, Interior-and Furniture Design
[About]

Florence Marguerite Knoll Bassett (née Schust; May 24, 1917 – January 25, 2019) was an American architect, interior designer, furniture designer, and entrepreneur renowned for her transformative impact on office design and for popularizing modernist aesthetics in office interiors. Alongside her husband, Hans Knoll, she elevated Knoll Associates to preeminence in furniture and interior design. She actively worked to elevate the status of interior design as a profession, challenging gender stereotypes prevalent in the industry. Knoll's signature open office layouts, characterized by modernist furnishings and carefully tailored to the practical needs of office occupants, are widely recognized. Her modernist style, distinguished by its sleek lines and geometric precision, was complemented by textures, organic forms, and vibrant colors, imparting a human touch to her designs.
