The inspiration for this particular pendant project is unmistakably drawn from ancient Egypt, a fascination Lalique cultivated through museum visits and interactions with the painter Georges Clairin. As an artist of the late 19th century, René Lalique delved into the symbolism of the beetle, often associated with Osiris and symbolizing resurrection. He adorned it with opals and amethysts, enhancing its allure with enamel.
Drawing held paramount importance in René Lalique's creative process. From an early age, he displayed remarkable talent, earning accolades and prizes. Throughout his life, he carried a notebook in his pocket, using it to sketch lively figures, intricate arabesques, and jot down diverse reflections, recipes, artisanal contacts, snippets of poetry, and more.
